Wates appointed for redevelopment of historic buildings in Shropshire
Contractor Wates has been appointed to build the first phase of the Flax Mill Maltings development in Shropshire.
The scheme, for Shropshire council and designed by architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, will restore the historic mill buildings, which include the world’s first iron-framed building, in order to reopen them as an education and tourist attraction. The development will also include space for business and commercial use.
The council has submitted a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £12.8m to enable it to go ahead with the scheme.
