A new sixth-form centre at the Alperton Community school in Brent, north-west London, has been constructed entirely of pre-owned modular buildings

Designed by architect Sampson Associates and built and supplied by Foremans Relocatable ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Systems, the £1m, two-storey scheme uses 46

pre-owned steel modules. Built in five months from receipt of order, the units were fully refurbished and fitted out off site and were craned into position during the school holidays to minimise disruption to teaching.

According to Foremans, the approach reduced the build programme by around 70% and the construction budget by half compared to traditional site-based building methods. It has also dramatically reduced the building’s carbon footprint.

Other features of the scheme include pre-installed timber cladding from sustainable sources, natural ventilation, energy-efficient lighting, brise-soleil sunshading and water conservation devices.
