A new dual-insulation roof system from Kalzip has been used on the CO2Zero-LiveWork building in Bristol which is the first live/work scheme to be certified to level five of the Code for Sustainable Homes
The roof system achieves U-values as low as 0.1 W/m2K and combines the benefits of two complementary types of insulation materials – Kalzip Insulation Plus (glass mineral fibre) and Kalzip Insulation 23 (rigid insulation boards). Combining the two materials enables a greater overall thermal resistance to be achieved compared with using a single layer of insulation of the same thickness, the company claims.
Developed by Logic Construction Project & Design Services, the scheme comprises a private terrace of nine properties, each with a duplex apartment over a ground level work unit with a street level shop front.
The low U-value roof system is based on standard Kalzip standing seam build-up configurations.
