BriggsAmasco has begun work on a brown roof scheme at Manchester’s latest mixed-use development, 1 New York Street. The roof has been designed and specified with the aim of attracting the rare black redstart bird into the city centre by emulating a natural area of habitat and vegetation that will stimulate breeding

BriggsAmasco will install a Hydrotech hot melt roof system across the 900m2 roof, providing a watertight seal. On top of this, a biodiverse system of sedum, wild flower turf, rubble, rocks and various recycled materials will be laid.

The number of pairing black redstarts has diminished dramatically over the years.
