Only Switzerland and Denmark above us, according to new EC Harris report
The UK is the thrid most expensive coutnry to build regeneration projects in, according to a new report issued by EC Harris. Mixed-use regeneration costs an average of 7,000 euros (£4,783) per square metre in the UK, according to the European Focus Report. This is behind the top ranking Switzerland where it costs 8,000 euros per square metre and Denmark - the additional cost of those two countries is put down to higher labour and social costs and higher standards of specification. Ireland and sweden were close behind the UK, with the latter costing 6,200 euros per square metre.
The report identified that a partnering culture was the preferred environment to manage all the issues of driving schemes with a mixture of private and public backing.
The EC Harris data was based on a regeneration scheme comprising: office refurbishment, new retail units, a new health centre and refurbishment and conversion of existing buildings to provide residential spaces.
