Bernard Williams’ report (‘Efficient?’ QS ɫTV, 2 June) concluded that the UK and Ireland show the poorest construction performances of the 12 major EU countries.
We are all members of a common system of European laws, but the UK is better at compliance and this has a considerable financial penalty on cost and programme.
Things are getting worse by the minute. Even if our QS system is used in the most proactive partnership way the framework in which we operate continues to frustrate the best intentions. New obligations fall on developers at every stage of the planning and building process.
Of course, we can all do better and it is not all the fault of the architect, the client or the planners, but be fair to the QS. If the “brick counter” never got it wrong, the system would still be shuddering under top heavy obligations.
