Contractor signs green energy supply deal as part of drive to halve its carbon emissions by 2020
Willmott Dixon has signed a deal with a renewable energy supplier as part of its drive to halve its carbon emissions by 2020.
The contractor has teamed up with SmartestEnergy to provide electricity from renewable sources such as solar, wind and hydro-electric to all its offices that can procure their own supplies, which will see a dozen of the firm鈥檚 offices across the country switch to renewable energy.
The firm said the deal with the energy supplier is 鈥渃ompetitive against current standard energy contracts鈥 and is part of a strategy to eventually use renewable energy to power construction site offices.
Commenting on the deal, group chief executive, Rick Willmott, said: 鈥淐limate change is a major threat to our planet and I believe every company is responsible for limiting its own impact on the environment to reduce global warming.鈥
Willmott Dixon has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% in 2020 compared to 2010 levels.
