Venue, developed by Muse and Doncaster council, part of wider regeneration of town
Vinci Construction will start work this week on Doncaster鈥檚 拢20m new performance theatre.
The scheme, developed by Doncaster council and development partner Muse is dubbed the New Performance Venue (NPV) and will be a focal point for the town鈥檚 new civic and cultural quarter.
It will include a 600 seat main auditorium, 200 seat/400 standing flexible performing space, drama and dance studios, education spaces, foyer, bar, box office, dressing rooms, circulation and ancillary spaces and a caf茅.
Keith Shivers, regional director at Vinci, said: 鈥淲e are really excited to begin work on this great new performance venue in Doncaster. Vinci Construction UK is honoured to be able to play such a key role in the regeneration of the town centre 鈥 by building a brand new state-of-the-art performance space.鈥
Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, added: 鈥淭he new performance venue will be the cultural heartbeat of the development and promises to be another wonderful addition to Doncaster鈥檚 growing portfolio of attractions. The new venue is far more than a direct replacement of the Civic Theatre, it will offer something for everyone to take part in or enjoy.鈥
Arts Council England provided 拢2m of National Lottery investment for the project, which was also backed by the European Regional Development Fund and is expected to complete in 2013.
