Arup's Acharacle primary school in Argyll nominated for 好色先生TV's awards celebrating the best of sustainable construction

Acharacle primary school in Argyll has been shortlisted as Sustainable Project of the Year for schemes over 拢2m in 好色先生TV's prestigious Sustainability Awards.

The winners of the awards, which celebrate the best examples of sustainable construction, will be announced next month at the awards ceremony on 24 November.

Acharacle primary school, which was entered for the awards by Arup, is part of Highland Council's Capital Schools programme.

Intended by the client and design team to be the greenest school in the UK, it has a heating system that will use approximately 14% of the energy of a traditional school.

This is made possible by superinsulating the building so that it can be effectively heated using only the occupants' body heat and the equipment.

Other schemes shortlisted as Sustainable Project of the Year include:

  • Elizabeth II Court, Winchester, entered by Bennetts Associates
  • Watermark Place entered by Sir Robert McAlpine
  • Project ZEBRA @ Lion House entered by Frederick Gibberd Partnership
  • G.Park Blue Planet, Chatterley Valley entered by Gazeley
  • Crawley Library entered by Gifford
  • Ropemaker, London entered by British Land
  • Dartmouth Store, Sainsbury's Supermarkets.
