Gordon Brown applauds creative design and high-quality construction of BAM-built Joseph Chamberlain sixth-form college
The Joseph Chamberlain sixth-form college in Birmingham has won this year's prime minister's Better Public 好色先生TV Award, it was announced last night.
The awardees said: 鈥淭he beautiful, protected and calm environment created by Nicholas Hare Architects belies its tough inner-city surroundings.鈥
The college, which was built by BAM Construction, opened in September 2008 and now has 1,600 students.鈥
The prime minister, Gordon Brown, congratulated all those involved and said that the college was an excellent example of creative design and high-quality construction leading to better public services.
鈥淪tudents, teachers and all those working and living around the college can take great pride in this first-class building,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 am sure it will inspire all who use it and make a real difference to the community.'鈥
BAM's construction manager for the project, Steve Roome, said he was thrilled and that it was a tribute to the successful partnership on the building and how well it had been received in the city.
