Cardiff scheme designed by BFLS with Willmott Dixon as main contractor

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff, Wales鈥 national music and drama conservatoire, will open to a new intake of students this month after a radical redevelopment.

The 拢22.5m scheme comprises a 450-seat chamber recital hall, a 180-seat theatre, four rehearsal studios, an exhibition gallery, a terrace overlooking Bute Park and a new caf茅 bar.

It was funded by a grant from the Welsh Government, loan finance, and 拢4m of philanthropic donations.

The buildings were designed by BFLS and built by Willmott Dixon, with Arup acting as acoustic engineers, Mott MacDonald handling structural and M&E consulting, and Davis Langdon as QS.
