Essex County Council selects joint venture as preferred bidder ahead of Balfour Beatty and Costain

Essex County Council has selected a Ringway/Jacobs joint venture as its preferred bidder for a 拢1bn integrated highways partnership.

The duo saw off competition from Balfour Beatty and a consortium of Costain, Serco and Capita Symonds.

The highways and services contract will begin on 1 April 2012 and will run for 10 years, with an option to be extended for up to five years.

Ringway and Jacobs will form a strategic partnership with Essex County Council.

County Councillor Tracey Chapman, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said:鈥淐ustomer focus and improving core services are two of our top priorities, and the Highways Transformation Programme will help us to achieve this.
