Jeremy Hackett, the rebel member of the RICS鈥 governing committee, has died suddenly.

Hackett, 66, was taken ill and died while on holiday in Krakow, Poland, on Monday 7 April.

Hackett, who was a QS at Schofield Lothian, gained notoriety in the RICS for his criticisms of the body鈥檚 treatment of its members, particularly over its fee increases.

Michael Byng, chairman of the RICS鈥 QS and construction faculty, said: 鈥淛eremy was a spirited individual, and although he may not have been to everyone鈥檚 taste, he was the conscience of us all. He read the rules and asked the questions that others perhaps would not. He will be much missed.鈥
