WYG gains role on Sainsbury鈥檚 led redevelopment
Proposals from Sainsbury鈥檚 for a multi-million pound mixed-use redevelopment of Redhill town centre have been approved.
The proposals comprise an 80,000ft2 Sainsbury鈥檚 foodstore, a 98-room hotel, gym and improved facilities at Redhill Library and the local Harlequin Theatre.
The Sainsbury鈥檚 project will create around 350 new jobs, while the hotel and gym will offer further employment possibilities. WYG is the planning consultant on the scheme.
Gary Morris, regional director of planning and design at WYG said: 鈥淭he proposal will deliver a high quality mixed use scheme on a key gateway site in Redhill town centre, it鈥檚 a great example of sustainable economic development and should give a big boost to regeneration in Redhill.
鈥淭he approval follows extensive discussions and negotiations between the joint applicants, Sainsbury鈥檚 and Aviva, the local authority and councillors to deliver a scheme that would play a central role in delivering the Council鈥檚 vision for regenerating Redhill town centre.鈥
Andrew Pepler, regional town planning manager for Sainsbury鈥檚 said: 鈥淲e are delighted to be working with Aviva Investors to deliver this regeneration project in Redhill town centre. The new store is a significant investment for Sainsbury鈥檚 and I am pleased that our customers will soon have much greater shopping choice, in a modern and attractive environment.鈥
