Major part of 2012鈥檚 sustainability plan is cancelled because new safety legislation has deterred potential contractors
Plans for a 130-meter wind turbine at the London Olympic Park has been scrapped after being snubbed by potential contractors.
The Olympic Delivery Authority announced today that it has decided not to build the wind turbine, which it had previously heralded as a major part of its sustainability plans. The turbine was to be built on the north of the site at Eton Manor.
A statement said that the turbine has been cancelled due to new safety legislation, which prompted the original supplier to pull out, and a subsequent snub from the industry which failed to show any interest in the project.
ODA chief executive David Higgins said: 鈥淲e have carried out an exhaustive process with the industry and suppliers over the last two years to find a viable way of delivering a wind turbine on the Olympic Park site. However, the industry environment has changed and that means the project is no longer feasible.鈥
