The Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude, has announced 拢22bn of investment in government construction projects over the next three years. The figures are set to be confirmed in the autumn along with further details on exacting where the money will be invested.
Speaking at the construction procurement conference, Francis Maude, said:
鈥淭he government鈥檚 construction strategy is reducing costs by up to 20% by reforming the way we procure construction projects across all sectors.
鈥淗owever, we are still investing billions of pounds annually; with the same money we will procure more schools, hospitals, courts and prisons.
鈥淒espite an incredibly difficult economic climate we are investing in and prioritizing our construction industry.
鈥淭he government and the construction industry have a shared obligation to cut waste and find new and better ways of doing business. This is especially important when we are talking about creating first class, modern, fully functioning public service delivery buildings like hospitals and schools.鈥
The government also plans to publish a forward pipeline of projects in the autumn 鈥 as part of a transparency and efficiency drive by the Cabinet Office.
The Minister also revealed new details about the Government Construction board which will be chaired by Paul Morrell.
The Efficiency and Reform Steering Committee, set to be chaired by Andrew Wolstenholme, will work with task groups chaired by Nick Pollard, Tim Eaton, Deborah Rowland, Mark Bew and Bill Yardley.
