Mace has been appointed by National Museums Liverpool to project manage the 拢72m Museum of Liverpool project as it nears conclusion, taking over from Mott MacDonald
Until recently Mace was working with National Museums Liverpool solely as client adviser on the 拢41m base build contract for the building, which was designed by Danish architect 3XN. The Mace project team will now work until the building is handed over at the end of the year.
National Museums Liverpool declined to say why the project roles had been changed at such a late stage, but a spokesperson said completion of the base build was still scheduled for the end of the year. Mott will continue to work as project manager for external interfaces.
The spokesperson added: 鈥淭his change is a refinement of Mace鈥檚 important role in the project. The details for individual contracts and scopes of services are commercially confidential.鈥
The museum will be the largest to be built in the UK for almost a century, and will provide 8,000m2 of public space on three floors.
Mike Fotherby, Mace project director, said: 鈥淲e are delighted that the client is so happy with the Mace approach and ethos that they have appointed us to take this project to base build completion.鈥
Mott declined to comment.
