Metsec has supplied 32 long span, lightweight steel trusses along with Z-purlins and C-sections to support the roof of the Hub, a curved four-storey riverfront residential and retail development in Chelmsford.
The crescent-shaped roof was complicated to design and detail as the hipped ends and valleys were not square. This required the trusses and purlins to be set out to fit around a radius. The pitched lightweight steel trusses each span 15.5m and are 300mm deep at the shallow end, rising to 1400mm at the ridge to provide the 8掳 pitch. Most were delivered to site in two parts for ease of handling.
