Schemes worth 拢5.1m are to be built at educational institutions in Basingstoke and Brighton

The Leadbitter Group has been awarded two construction contracts, worth a total of 拢5.1m, to design and build two sports centres in the education sector.

The projects will take place at Falmer Campus, a part of the University of Brighton, and Bishop Challoner secondary school, in Basingstoke. Both contracts are scheduled for completion in autumn 2010.

The 拢1.5m project at Bishop Challoner School is already underway, where plans have been set in place to build a sports hall four times the size of the original school gym. Meanwhile, at Falmer Campus, the 拢3.5m contract to build a sports hall with dance studios and a gymnasium has been scheduled to commence this month.

In addition to these projects, Leadbitter has recently completed the first phase of a multi-million pound contract to design and build extensive sports facilities at University College Plymouth.

Bob Rendell, Leadbitter鈥檚 chief executive, said the projects 鈥渕eet the challenge of enabling young people to be more active鈥 and added that the schools can use the sports halls 鈥渁s an important source of revenue out of school hours鈥.
