Mipim latest: Liverpool city council looks for development partner

Liverpool city council is looking for a development partner to create 鈥渁 cultural garden suburb鈥 on the banks of the river Mersey.

The 36ha site is on the former International Festival Gardens site and will be known as Festival Park Liverpool.

The site inlcudes an 11.5ha northern development zone which has the potential to create up to 2,500 new homes.

The new homes are being marketed as part of a wider mixed-use leisure and retail scheme alongside a new public open space on the present Southern Grasslands.

Last summer, local firm K2 Architects was appointed to create a draft masterplan for the work.

City mayor Joe Anderson, who was due to announce the search at this week鈥檚 Mipim property show in the south of France, said: 鈥淭he site is fully owned by the city council and we see the Festival Park as a key component of Liverpool鈥檚 future prosperity, addressing the need for more quality homes.鈥

There is a current outline planning consent for a 1,380 unit residential development on part of the site, valid until December 2022.
