US funeral director invites bids for patio job in barter deal

A New York funeral director is offering a free funeral to any builder who will undertake a construction job at his Manhattan home.

Funeral director Peter Dohanich, 51, said he did not have the cash for the patio remodelling but insisted the exchange was fair.

鈥淚t may sound like a laughable barter transaction, but consider the average cost of paying for a funeral. 鈥 Ask someone that recently had a funeral what they paid!鈥

Donahich said he had received a few calls from takers but had not yet selected anybody for the macabre job.

The cost of the job is $6,000, or $1,300 less than the cost of a funeral, according to the National Funeral Directors Association.
