Don Foster, who replaced Andrew Stunell in the reshuffle, takes building regulations portfolio in communities department
New Liberal Democrat communities minister Don Foster will take charge of building regulations as part of his brief, the Department for Communities and Local Government has confirmed.
Foster was appointed to the post last week in the wake of the prime minister鈥檚 cabinet reshuffle.
He replaced Andrew Stunell in the department.
Foster will now have responsibility for handling the controversial proposals for introducing a requirement for home owners to improve the energy efficiency of their homes when building an extension, under revisions to Part L of the building regulations.
The plans were dubbed a 鈥渢ax on conservatories鈥 when they were unveiled earlier this year and Number 10 is known to oppose them.
But the department is yet to come to conclusion on whether to implement the plans follow a consultation on them earlier this year.
