Work will entail building sprayed concrete lining tunnels and access shaft to link existing network to main Crossrail artery
Crossrail has invited bids for tunnelling work at Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road stations. Notices on Official Journal today show the work entails building sprayed concrete lining tunnels and access shafts, which will link the existing network to the main Crossrail artery. The contracts include the construction of platforms, escalator tunnels and cross passages and extensive temporary facilities, such as lighting.
The news comes following a reported delay in issuing one of Crossrail’s three major tunnelling contracts. It is understood that while two went out to tender in September, the third was meant to go out at the same time but has been delayed.
The two are for C300 Tunnels West and C305 Tunnels East, which together make up 18km of the scheme’s 21km long twin-bore tunnel.
The third and final big tunnelling contract, the Thames Tunnel drive, is understood to have been delayed due to continuing negotiations with project sponsor and developer Berkeley Homes but is now expected imminently.
The £15.9bn Crossrail projects is due for completion in 2017.
