Newham council backs new station at Pudding Mill Lane.
A council has approved plans to replace a station in east London.
Newham council has given the go-ahead to plans for a replacement Docklands Light Railway station at Pudding Mill Lane.
The existing station has to be demolished to make way for a tunnel and approach ramp for Crossrail. The new station will accommodate longer DLR trains as well as having step-free access.
The new station has been designed by Weston Williamson.
Work on Crossrail at Pudding Mill Lane will be suspended during the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics because it is close to the Olympic Park.
Howard Smith, London Rail鈥檚 chief operating officer said: 鈥淭ransport for London welcomes the opportunity presented by Crossrail鈥檚 construction to provide DLR passengers with a brand new station at Pudding Mill Lane. The new station will be able to accommodate many more passengers than the existing station which will support future development as well as the future use of the Olympic stadium.鈥
