One firm will build frames for both the BBC鈥檚 and Sadler鈥檚 Wells鈥 new east London bases

Contractors have been put on notice for the next wave of work at the 拢1.1bn development of Stratford Waterfront in east London.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) has started the search for a specialist to build the frames of the BBC鈥檚 and Sadler鈥檚 Wells鈥 new homes in the East Bank development, which is part of the wider Stratford Waterfront culture and education development at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The 拢22m deal will see one contractor carry out the frame works for the two buildings under a single contract.

The new Sadler鈥檚 Wells theatre has been designed by Irish architect O鈥橠onnell + Tuomey, while Allies and Morrison is behind the BBC鈥檚 new studio.

The successful contractor will be responsible for building the structural cores, external and internal public lift cores, structural frame, as well as plant rooms and areas.

It will also build roofs and hub terraces, block work, builders鈥 work and fire protection, staircases and ramps and public realm structures.

The frame design for both buildings is predominantly reinforced concrete but there is also a steel element, as large steel trusses will be required to carry spanning floors and roofs.

The LLDC is planning on shortlisting five firms, with interested companies having until .

The shortlisted bidders are expected to be notified by 21 May, while the contract is expected to run for 16 months.

The work is the latest opportunity to emerge at the East Bank development, with the LLDC already gearing up concrete and steel frame contractors for an 拢8m deal to carry out work on the new V&A East scheme last December.

The entire Stratford Waterfront development is being managed by Mace.
