McGee and McGrath Group sponser team of 'Lost Penguins' in race to raise money for WaterAid
Two specialist construction firms are sponsoring a team on a charity trek to the North Pole.
McGee, an earthmoving and demolition specialist and design and development company McGrath Group have each donated 拢5000 to a three-strong team taking part in the Polar Challenge, a race to the North Pole.
The 鈥淟ost Penguins鈥 are raising money in support of WaterAid, a charity that provides access to clean water and sanitation to some of the world鈥檚 poorest people. They have prepared for the trek by taking part in the Reading Half Marathon and a cycle ride from London to Paris.
Team members Connie Potter, Mike Woolliscroft and Rich Wall-Morris will wear hi-visibility vests from the two construction companies. Woolliscroft works for Berkeley Homes and Wall for Taylor Woodrow; the two gained the sponsorships through their contacts in the industry. Woolliscroft said: 鈥淭he penguin idea came from us training to take on the Arctic and seeing as there are no Penguins in the Artic, we decided on the name Lost Penguins.鈥
McGee director Paul Bland said: 鈥淲e are used to overcoming challenges and sometimes freeze the ground to do so but these guys will be spending weeks in temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees. We wish them all the best.鈥
