Contractor benefits from retailer鈥檚 plans for expansion
Barr has won contracts worth 拢35m to build supermarkets for Sainsbury鈥檚 as the retailer expands its presence in Scotland.
The deal will involve building two new stories, managing the extension of two stores and converting a further store. Barr, a regular partner for Sainsbury鈥檚, will also be responsible for the construction of all Sainsbury鈥檚 convenience stores throughout Scotland.
Barclay Chalmers, managing director of Barr, said: 鈥淭hese contracts represent a significant amount of work for our retail division and they have helped to strengthen our order book. Our retail division is going from strength-to-strength, despite the current downturn within the construction industry.鈥
Work will begin in summer 2010 with the building of a new store in Hawick.
