Firm outlines achievements and targets in its latest sustainability report
BAM Construct UK has reached its target for halving waste to landfill two years ahead of schedule. In 2008 the Dutch owned contractor adopted the WRAP target of halving waste to landfill by 2012. BAM now has a diversion rate from landfill of 85%.
The announcement came in BAM鈥檚 fourth sustainability report, which was published today. The report set out sustainability targets up to 2015 and covers a programme for managing climate change, waste management, sustainable design and responsible sourcing.
The company has committed to a reduction of carbon emissions by 25% against a 2008 baseline, and a further 25% reduction in construction waste against 2010鈥檚 baseline. BAM is also aiming for zero non-hazardous waste to landfill and is seeking to provide 1,000 new employment and training opportunities through its operations.
Commenting on the report Graham Cash, chief executive of BAM Construct UK, said:
鈥淪ustainability is intrinsic to how we deliver solutions for our clients every day. It鈥檚 how we do business. We see the market for sustainable low-carbon buildings expanding every year.
鈥淭o show how important it is to us we have developed a set of longer-term targets right up to 2015. We were in the forefront of leading the industry in embedding health and safety principles. We are committed to achieving similar progress on sustainability.鈥
