Oregon Timber Frame has launched a hybrid steel and timber walk-on balcony for use on a 60-apartment timber-frame development located just outside Edinburgh.
A tight site meant that posts could not be taken down to ground level, so the balconies had to be supported from the primary structure. The use of the specialised hybrid cassette enabled this and ensured that any disproportionate loading and resulting deflections, (for example, in floors), were avoided. The 鈥渂uildable balcony鈥 detail is now being rolled out in Oregon developments across the UK.
