Exhibition of the captial's most loved - and hated - buildings goes on display
A bright pink Elephant & Castle, a black and white striped Lloyds 好色先生TV and an Oxo Tower set against a crimson sky. These are just a selection of iconic London buildings being featured in a modern art exhibition in the capital this month.
Paul Catherall, the artist known for his architectural graphic linocuts, has a canny knack of creating stark, bold images out of buildings that are equally loved and hated by the public.
Elephant & Castle shopping centre, for example, has long been regarded as a blot on south London's landscape and is due for demolition. Catherall, however, is rather fond of it and his brightly coloured depiction suggests.
"I was brought up in Coventry," he says. "So it reminds me of my childhood."
