Entire scheme will deliver 6,700 new homes
Argent Related has submitted plans to Barnet council for the first batch of new homes at Brent Cross South.
Designed by Maccreanor Lavington Architects, the first plot to come forward at the 180-acre scheme will comprise an L-shaped block to the north and a courtyard block to the south, ranging from 6-13 storeys in height to provide 292 homes,
From this, 110 are allocated to re-house the residents of the existing Whitefield Estate and 182 units for private sale.
The first plot, which sits towards the southern edge of the central area of the masterplan facing Claremont Park, will also provide 717m2 of retail and café space and 126 parking spaces accommodated in a shared basement, together with cycle storage and plant.
Brent Cross South is part of Barnet council’s £4.5bn regeneration plans for the area, which will also see Hammerson and Standard Life Investments give Brent Cross shopping centre a £1.4bn facelift. The two schemes will be linked via a living bridge, echoing Heatherwick Studio’s plans for a Garden Bridge across the River Thames.
Outline planning permission for the scheme was given in 2010 and Argent Related has now submitted reserved matters applications for the first phase, which is made up of three sub-phases. The entire scheme is set to provide 6,700 new homes and up to four million ft2 of new office space, as well as a new high street.
The joint venture is planning to start road works at the site next year with the connstruction of the first lot of homes in 2019.
