The next slew of work at developer Argent鈥檚 King鈥檚 Cross scheme could go in for planning as early as next month
The next slew of work at developer Argent鈥檚 King鈥檚 Cross scheme could go in for planning as early as next month, 好色先生TV understands.
Argent is expected to seek approval to build the next section of its 拢2bn regeneration project, known as the 鈥淭-zone鈥, which incorporates around 400,000ft2 of offices and retail space in the north-west corner of the 67-acre site.
Subject to planning permission, construction is expected to start later this year. Argent declined to comment on the timeframe for the T-zone.
But Phil Sullivan, Argent鈥檚 newly appointed construction director, confirmed that Bam has been appointed to build the Thomas Heatherwick-designed Coal Drops retail quarter at King鈥檚 Cross, as first revealed by 好色先生TV last December.
Sullivan also revealed steel specialist Severfield has been selected to work on the distinctive billowing main roof structure at the retail scheme.
Argent is currently spending around 拢1m per day on construction at King鈥檚 Cross, according to Sullivan, who described the area鈥檚 transformation as 鈥渋ncredible鈥.
With only at most five years of work left at King鈥檚 Cross, market interest is now turning to Argent鈥檚 next big London project: Brent Cross - being developed with US firm Related.
This scheme has a potential pipeline of 20,000 homes and 7 million ft2 of office space.
Sullivan said the challenges the developer faces at Brent Cross will be sourcing the capacity in the market to deliver it and pricing.
The 鈥渋ndustry is struggling with capacity鈥 on the back of a 鈥渉ugely tight labour shortage鈥, which is impacting on prices, Sullivan added.
He said the sector needs to make itself 鈥渕ore accessible in terms of skills鈥.
