To the barricades!
Your article “RICS set for showdown with ’big eight’ QSs” (14 May, 2010), reinforces the opinion within the rank and file that the RICS is pursuing a number of policies that are to the detriment of ordinary members

If you think this is bad …
I read with interest your leader and article about quantity surveyors’ frustration with the RICS (7 May, page 3 and 9). I, too, have concerns about how it is run

A question of values
We read about the sports hall at Dunraven school in Lambeth (26 March,) with surprise at how much someone is prepared to pay for a sports hall and amazement that you were heralding it as good value.

Unhappy as Larry
I am an American who has been following the British 2010 election campaign closely on the internet. My biggest shock was finding out just how far left British politics has become.

The only organisation that merits the description “short-sighted” is the Association for the Conservation of Energy, in its response to our view on the introduction of new ɫTV Standards in Scotland later this year a move estimated by the Scottish government itself to add up to £8k on to the ...

Careless talk
I read with interest your recent article about how the growth of the UK economy is being hindered by a shrinking construction industry, (“Construction decline holds back UK economy”, 23 April, building.co.uk) but I think that it gives the wrong – and worrying – message to our industry.

The electorate speaks
I find British politics rather strange. We have one of the largest discrepancies between the highest paid and the lowest in the western world, and still people complain about taxes – even with all the desperate problems that result. The disaster of the eighties has only just levelled out. Five ...

Nobody was left
Complaining about Tesco’s outsourcing of its suppliers, architects and surveyors reminds me of the poem by the German pastor Martin Niemöller, First They Came, in which he tells how he failed to speak up when the Nazis took away communists, then trade unionists, and then Jews because he was none ...

Loyalty discarded
A bit short-sighted from Tesco. Most of its current business is in UK and it does place a strong emphasis on its loyalty cards so presumably it believes in loyalty – or am I a bit naive? I will go somewhere else for my shopping in future.George Smith
