- N&C Moderna have been awarded Tile Contractor of the Year 2013 at the Tile Association awards. The company says it was recognised for being able to offer the complete tiling solution for clients within a wide range of industries, specialising in ceramic, stone, mosaic, porcelain, heated floors, temporary flooring and more.
- The Precast Flooring Federation has published its updated code of practice for the safe installation of precast concrete flooring and associated components. The code covers planning, organising, managing and carrying out work safely. The new and revised 106-page edition of the code includes aspects not previously covered, for example, manual handling operations regulations have been expanded to incorporate noise at work and vibration at work. - Accsys Technologies has introduced an illustrated movie, which the company says emphasises its commitment to sustainable practice and features the credentials of Accoya wood as a sustainable building solution. The short film includes the wood acetylation process, achieved using Accsys’ proprietary wood modification technology.
RUSTIC ONE-STRIP FLOORS
Kährs has introduced a new collection of rustic one-strip floors, the Founders Collection, to celebrate Kährs’ Swedish tradition. Each floor is named after a member of the
Kährs family that founded the company in 1857, designs including Oak Fredrik, Gustaf, Olof, Sture, Johan and Ulf. Each board measures 2,420mm x 187mm x 15mm and has an individually-toned nature oil pre-finish. Floors are finished with water-based stains and solvent-free oil and the company says they can be laid on most dry, level surfaces, and over underfloor heating systems.

INSULATED PRECAST CONCRETE FLOORING PRODUCTS
Creagh Concrete has launched an insulated precast concrete solution for ground floors called SpanTherm that it claims can be installed without a large mobile crane. The firm says SpanTherm enables housebuilders to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes from level 3 to level 6 and achieves insulation levels of 0.1Wm2K. It is supplied in widths of 1,200mm, 900mm and 400mm and depths of 350mm and 375mm.

Gerflor’s LVT Creation range was specified for bicycle retailer Giant’s flagship central London store. Several styles from the LVT Creation range of 89 realistic wood and mineral finishes were used to create different moods and themes within the 11,000ft² St Paul’s store to improve customers’ experience. The company says its vinyl products were chosen over wood for their lower costs, quicker fitting, easier installation and minimum maintenance.

DESIGN ASSURED SAFETY FLOOR
Polyflor has launched Expona Control, a flooring concept that the company says combines the design benefits of an luxury vinyl tile with the performance of a HSE compliant safety floor offering wet slip resistance. The 14 colour collection features wood and stone designs and is developed for use in public areas where there is a risk of spillage or temporary surface water that could make the floor unsafe. Typical applications include restaurant areas, supermarkets, department stores and schools. The firm claims Expona Control achieves 36+ in the pendulum wet test and 20 microns of surface roughness.

Quadrant Carpets supplied 700m2 of its Elements carpet tiles for the new headquarters of The Absolut Company in Chiswick, west London. Chosen in light cream Juneau, the Elements carpet tiles provide a natural backdrop that contrasts with the bright furniture and lighting within the office space. The company says the carpet tiles were chosen for their natural colouring as well as the textural structure adding a further dimension to the office interior. The firm also says Elements carpet tiles are ideal for office buildings that are prone to heavy footfall and they are easy to clean and maintain.

PV ANTI-SLIP FLOOR
Onyx Solar has introduced a non-slip glass surface walkable PV floor, which can integrate solar energy into buildings. The company says it complies with anti-slip regulations and supports 400kg in a point load test. A range of configurations are possible including the chance to use a LED backlit system.

SUSTAINABLE PAVING
Hanson Formpave has supplied over 2,000m2 of paving to Barratt Homes’ Hanham Hall development, which the company says will be one of the first zero carbon communities in England. The development will consist of 185 houses as well as shops and offices. Hanson Formpave’s Chartres paving has been specified as well as Aquasett and Aquaflow, the company’s permeable paving sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS). The firm says its products were chosen as they offered the most innovative sustainable solutions available, combining aesthetics and permeability.

CONCRETE REPAIR
A range of products from Sika were specified to repair ageing concrete structures and apply new waterproof and decorative decking systems to two city centre car parks in Brighton. Sika Ferrogard 903+ was used to protect the steel reinforcement from corrosion and Sika Galvashield Sacrificial Anodes were applied to concrete patch repairs to protect against anode corrosion. Sika Rapid Repair Mortar was used for the concrete repairs and Sika Armorex Armocrete was used for deeper repairs.
