EC Power has developed the XRGI, a micro combined heat and power (CHP) generator.
Monitoring on-site demand, the system modulates output, producing up to 13kW of electricity, in addition to up to 30kW of heat. The figures equate to the heat and power needed for 15 to 20 households, although units can be combined to cater for more. The company claims the CHP unit is 95% efficient compared with its closest rival’s 93% efficiency. Typically it runs on natural gas and other fossil fuels but the company says it can also run on biogas and bio-diesel without modification.
