A longstanding commitment to best practice in all its guises paid off for Mace, which fought off tough competition to pick up this award, sponsored by the Construction Best Practice Programme
Mace
All the firms shortlisted for the 2002 ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Awards were eligible for the Best Practice Award, which focuses solely on the best practice elements of each submission. Mace stood out from the crowd because it places this ethos at the heart of its strategy. The firm has even developed its own best practice programme, which it uses to implement continuous improvement through initiatives such as customer satisfaction surveys, people focus groups and the implementation of KPIs. And its commitment to the Egan agenda is obvious from its active involvement in the Movement for Innovation: it is currently working on four demonstration projects, including the Cannons Health Club roll-out programme, on which it has successfully used partnering in the supply chain to drive out waste, reduce construction time and improve quality. Mace has made best practice integral to its working ethos and this commitment, along with its role in the delivery of the GlaxoSmithKline headquarters early and under budget, meant that Mace really stood out as the best practitioner of best practice.
Also singled out for praise:
Housebuilders
Westbury for its investment in the Space4 system
Contractors
Russell Construction – a small firm that is doing everything right and getting amazing results
Clients
Peabody Trust – for its ongoing commitment to sustainability and the Egan agenda
