Government grant to help under-privileged youngsters enter construction
The Chartered Surveyors Training Trust (CSTT) has received government funding for 30 trainees to enter the property and construction industry over the next six months.
Supporters and current employers of CSTT trainees include Balfour Beatty, DTZ, Kier Group, Cyril Sweett, the City of London Corporation and a number of Housing Associations. The organisation has already placed a number of trainees to commence work in the autumn and is looking for additional employers.
Christina Hurst, CSST chief executive, said: 鈥淎s the government begins to tighten up on the university grant system the flow of graduates into the property and construction industry will start to dry-up; the CSTT provides highly motivated 鈥榲alue-for-money鈥 trainees who have a 90% success rate in obtaining their professional qualifications compared to the national average of 56%.
鈥淢any public sector contracts now require 鈥榓 certain number of government funded apprenticeships鈥 to allow tender qualification and the CSTT can assist employers fulfil this need as well as providing fee-earners at a fraction of the normal cost. We believe this is an attractive proposition for employers.鈥
The CSTT supports 16-24 year olds with financial, social or academic barriers as well as under-represented groups such as ethnic minorities and females. Over 150 trainee placements have been placed within the industry since 2005.
