Mixed-use site covers 18 acres, and work is scheduled to start in the spring
Developer LXB Properties has been granted planning permission for a 拢34m scheme in Gloucester anchored by a Morrisons supermarket.
The firm hopes to start building work on the 18-acre mixed-use site by next spring.
A 70,000ft2 foodstore has been pre-let to Morrisons, and the project also includes 140,000ft2 of employment space, an 11,000ft2 car showroom and 8,000ft2 of restaurant units.
Metz Way, where the development will take place, is near to Gloucester city centre and forms part of a wider regeneration programme known as the Railway Triangle Corridor.
Tim Walton, chief executive of LXB, said: 鈥淲e are delighted with this positive news and are looking forward to delivering a new store for Morrisons in Gloucester.
鈥淚n terms of the employment space, we are in discussion with a number of occupiers and we are encouraged by the level of interest so far.
鈥淚t is anticipated that the first phase will be completed by the third quarter of 2013.鈥
Paul James, leader of Gloucester council, said: 鈥淕loucester has waited a long time to find a workable regeneration solution to this large and prominent site, which has been an ugly scar on the face of the city for decades.鈥
