3:40PM Consultant appoints Ove Arup for low/zero carbon feasibility study

Construction and management consultant Turner & Townsend has been appointed by the Department of Communities and Local Government to provide a feasibility study on the potential of a low and zero carbon development area across the entire Thames Gateway. The firm has appointed Ove Arup as a supply partner to the scheme.

The appointment comes via the OGC Environmental Advise, Support & Design Framework and will involve any new developments up to 2050. This could potentially impact on 160,000 new homes and 180,000 new jobs.

In addition, the study will look at alternatives for realising low carbon performance on existing developments already home to 1.45 million people.

The study will involve defining low and zero carbon for the project. It means identifying current carbon emission baseline and examining the outcome if there was to be no change to the current carbon output. The firm will source technologies and activities to reduce carbon emissions.

The team will produce a range of scenario based on the costed options for achieving low and zero carbon performance.
