Balfour Beatty begins work on glazing to realise original Zaha Hadid design
Balfour Beatty has begun installing glass cladding on the London 2012 Aquatics Centre to reveal Zaha Hadid鈥檚 original design.
The installation of the 628 panes of glass, each of which is 1500mm x 3000mm and weighs 250kg, will take 70 days with a team of six installing one pane at a time.
The glass has been printed with a dot matrix pattern which varies in size and pattern over the elevations and, according to Balfour Beatty, is designed to 鈥減artially restrict vision through the glass to protect the privacy of the centre鈥檚 users.鈥
The contractor is due to complete the 鈥渓egacy works鈥 in December with the centre opening to the public next spring.
The facility will include a caf茅 and cr猫che, dry diving area, lane swimming, water polo and synchronized swimming.
