Five firms were shortlisted for the competition
The winner of a competition to find a design for the landscaping of the Ebbsfleet Garden City has been revealed.
A team led by Bradley Murphy Design won the competition, which was run by the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and NHS England, and is now set to help shape the landscape of what will be the first new Garden City of the 21st Century.
The winning project of the competition was called HALO, a collaboration between Bradley Murphy Design, JTP, Peter Brett Associates and Sebastien Boyesen.
The HALO concept, which stands for hives, arcs, links and organics, aims to deliver healthy infrastructure to residents’ doors by providing "accessible, attractive and inspirational places". Residents will be motivated to take up physical activity as a part of their daily lives, the winning team said.
Managed by The Landscape Institute, on behalf of the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and NHS, the second phase of the Ebbsfleet Design Challenge, which involved five shortlisted firms, focused on the Blue Lake site within the garden city because of the opportunities it offers local communities to benefit from the landscape.
The Ebbsfleet Design Challenge was judged by an expert panel of 10 judges including Ebbsfleet Development Corporation chair Michael Cassidy, chairman of Berkely Group Tony Pidgley and Christine Clarke, head of portfolio management at Land Securities.
