Construction logistics firm Wilson James is to form a strategic alliance with distribution firm TDG in a move the firm says will offer its customers a 鈥渃ontrol tower鈥 view over their whole supply chain
It is thought the alliance could be the forerunner of a formal joint venture between the firms.
The move has been driven by the demands of mega-projects such as Crossrail and the Olympics, which require an ability to track suppliers and know when components are going to reach site.
Gary Sullivan, chief executive of Wilson James, said: 鈥淎t the moment we can only really control the last mile before the product gets to your door. This should give much more control and predictability for major construction projects.鈥
Sullivan said the move was part of a wider industry shift that would see construction clients demand the full logistics service of other industries.
