Contractor to build School of Economics
Willmott Dixon has won a £13.4m contract to develop the new School of Economics building at the University of Kent.
The three-storey structure will enable the university to locate the School of Economics under one roof and will house improved facilities such as social spaces, meeting rooms and an IT suite, with further teaching space.
It will be located in the north-western part of the university’s campus, where the recently demolished Kent Research and Development Centre was located.
Construction on the new building is due to start this month, ready for completion in time for the 2019-20 academic year.
This project follows the creation of the Sibson ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV, a recently completed new facility for the Kent Business School and the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Acturial Science that has provided the university with around 8,000m2 of space, bringing together academics, students, researchers and administrative staff under one roof.
It’s the latest win for Willmott Dixon in the education sector, with ongoing projects including the creation of the new School of Medicine for Anglia Ruskin University in Essex, a sports hub for the University of Warwick and converting a former naval hospital within a world heritage site into a student hub for the University of Greenwich.
