Joint venture will build a 1.5 ha mixed-use scheme in Walthamstow
Willmott Dixon and retailer Morrisons have won a 拢65m contract to develop a 1.5 hectare mixed-use scheme in Walthamstow, north London.
The development - which will be anchored by a 75,000ft2 Morrisons superstore - will include other retail units and 230 one to four bed apartments located above the store.
The project will include a new community square, a green living wall and space for public art.
Richard Haynes, development executive at Morrisons said: 鈥淭his is another rung on the ladder for Morrisons鈥 expansion in London and the South-east, a key area for the 800,000ft2 of additional sales we plan to open across the country in 2012.鈥
Andrew Telfer, chief executive officer at Willmott Dixon Regen, the group鈥檚 specialist provider of development and investment in residential and mixed-tenure property, said: 鈥淎s the UK鈥檚 second largest privately owned contractor and developer, we are joining forces with one of the UK鈥檚 biggest names in retail to create new homes and retail space that will attract more people to work and live in Walthamstow.
鈥淭his is a key part of our strategy to use our construction and development expertise to partner with a company like Morrisons with complementary skills that can make large mixed-use developments like this a reality.鈥
