British architects make shortlist for masterplanning of market district in former Russian capital
Wilkinson Eyre and Foster + Partners have been shortlisted to masterplan a 14ha district in the centre of St Petersburg.
The two were selected from a longlist including the Office of Metropolitan Architecture, PRP and MVRVD.
The Apraksin Dvor scheme, for developer Glavstroy, is to masterplan a derelict market district in the centre of the World Heritage city.
Wilkinson Eyre’s masterplan features a new civic space underneath a signature glazed roof, alongside revamped 19th-century buildings adapted to become residential, office and retail spaces. It also envisages a new footbridge over the River Fotanka.
The architects will be holding an exhibition of their work at the St Petersburg Union of Architects until 25th January.
