Whitbread, the owner of the Premier Inn chain, has announced that it will green its entire stock of hotels and build a low carbon hotel
The group has enlisted architect Axiom to design a 60-bedroom hotel and restaurant at Burgess Hill in West Sussex. The contracts for the contractor and M&E specialist will go out to tender in January.
Alex Flach, head of construction at Whitbread, said the building would emit 40% less carbon than an average hotel.
This will be achieved through ground-source heating and remote monitoring of the energy used by all the appliances in the buildings.
The QS on the project is Fletcher McNeill, which is part of the Baqus group, and the engineer is Simpson Associates.
Meanwhile, Whitbread is to spend £3m in 2010 on a raft of measures to cut the carbon emissions of its existing hotels and restaurants.
