拢1bn expansion of Westfield鈥檚 White City shopping mall given the go-ahead
Plans for a 拢1bn expansion of Westfield鈥檚 White City shopping mall in west London have been given the go-ahead by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
The scheme, which will be phased over 17 years, includes up to 1,522 homes, a new public green, offices and an extension of the existing shopping centre in Wood Lane with new restaurants, cafes and a leisure complex.
A 20-storey 鈥渇eature building鈥 and a 59,000sqft new mall with an 鈥渁nchor store鈥 are also included in the proposals.
Westfield is contributing some 拢20m for community improvements as part of the agreement, including 拢3.9m for works to Shepherds Bush Overground station, with an extension to the ticket office, a new entrance and for lengthening the platform.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council said a further 拢1m would go towards highways and junction improvements, 拢450,000 to buses local transport and 拢75,000 for new town centre signposts, and that a new bridge and pedestrian footpaths linking the east and west of the site would be built.
Councillor Harry Phibbs, the council鈥檚 community-engagement lead, said the expansion plans were a positive move that would create new jobs.
鈥淚t fits in with our vision that Hammersmith and Fulham should be a borough of opportunity for all, and this will be a welcome boost to the local economy and community,鈥 he said.
