The former construction director of London鈥檚 Westfield shopping centre has been brought in to help run Sellar Properties鈥 拢2bn London Bridge Quarter development

Flan McNamara will work as number two to project director Bernard Ainsworth across the scheme for Sellar, which is leading the development consortium. The project includes the 拢425m, 87-storey Shard and its 17-storey companion tower London Bridge Place.

McNamara, a highly regarded project manager, oversaw the construction of the 拢1.6bn Westfield London centre in White City, during a spell at the Australian developer between 2006 and April this year. He joined the firm from Multiplex, where he had worked since 2005 as a project director on schemes including the 拢340m Peterborough hospitals PFI.

Prior to joining Multiplex, McNamara worked for ISG, then known as InteriorExterior, overseeing its 拢110m Albion Riverside scheme in Battersea. Since leaving Westfield, he has been carrying out consultancy work.

A source close to the development said: 鈥淪ellar has brought Flan in to work as of Monday this week. He鈥檚 an absolutely top guy and will be a real asset.鈥

Another source suggested that McNamara could eventually be given responsibility for the London Bridge Place tower, although it is understood that no firm decision has yet been taken on this.

Early demolition work is now taking place for London Bridge Place, having been put back earlier in the year.
