Westfield has strengthened the team overseeing its £1.45bn Stratford City development by drafting in the former managing director of Kier Scotland, writes Sarah Richardson.
Joe McMenamin has been appointed project director and will report to Keith Whitmore, Westfield’s director of construction. His most recent post was assistant managing director at Barr Construction.
The appointment comes seven months after the departure of Terry Starr, who had been involved in running the scheme, which borders the Olympic Park site, for almost a year after joining Westfield from Sir Robert McAlpine.
Starr left Westfield to join developer Candy & Candy as construction director of its £959m Chelsea Barracks development. He will oversee the construction of the 12.8 acre residential development, to be designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.
It has emerged that PC Harrington has been awarded the concrete contract for the project, which is estimated to be worth about £100m. Harrington was also the concrete contractor on Westfield’s White City project, which is due to open at the end of the month.
It’s likely that other suppliers will move from White City to Stratford in the coming months
Sources close to the Stratford City contract said it was likely that other suppliers from White City would move across in the coming months.
The three stakeholders in the Stratford City regeneration are Westfield, London & Continental Railways and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
The regeneration includes more than 5,300 homes and 1.25 million ft² of retail, leisure, hotel, office and community space. About 3,000 of the homes will be used for the Olympic village during the 2012 Games.
