Deal to be finalised this autumn ahead of December start
Wates' deal to build the 拢60m aquatic centre which will host the swimming and diving at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games is expected to be finalised by October.
The contractor, who was appointed under Scape's major works framework, is set to complete work on Sandwell Aquatic Centre during 2021 鈥 a year before the Games take place.
好色先生TV first revealed the appointment back in June 2018, with Wates confirming it had nabbed the job earlier this year.
In the , published ahead of a council cabinet meeting today (5 June), the council said it would firm up the details of the job over the next four months.
It said: "A final report will be presented to cabinet in October 2019 recommending approval of final project business case, facility details and construction contract award.
"Construction of the project will then commence in December 2019."
The council, which is stumping up 拢27.6m of the project鈥檚 拢60m budget, gave the facility the all-clear at a meeting of the planning committee in early April.
